HO, CAROL OI YAN 何藹恩
在兩個世界之間移動
我長久棲身於兩種美學之間,卻始終未曾真正屬於任何一方。1990年代中期至2000年代,在北美與英國所接受的正規藝術訓練,為我建立了一套嚴整的框架——然而那框架始終帶著些許距離感。真正點燃我感知與想像的,來自他處:日本動畫與漫畫、商業圖像的語言,以及流行文化中不斷湧動的視覺刺激。兩者在我之中交會、並存,未曾彼此完全消解。
這種夾於兩者之間的張力,成為我創作的內在動力。畫中人物被拉伸、變形,身體轉化成出陌生而不穩定的形態,彷彿逐漸脫離一個可辨識的整體。這並非為了單純的視覺衝擊,而是一種試探:讓具象繪畫越過既有的邊界,在西方繪畫的脈絡中,引入一種未被完全規範的感知方式。觀看的經驗因此產生分歧——有些西方觀者在不安之中被吸引;而部分亞洲觀者,或許熟悉其中的視覺語彙,卻未必察覺它與繪畫歷史之間低聲進行的對話。這些錯位與交錯,使作品持續生成意義。
我將這些形態理解為一種「流動的身體」(plasmatic):它們拒絕固定,抗拒被命名與界定。這種不確定性,正回應著當下的處境——一個關於身份流動與自我重構的時代,一種不再依附單一來源或單一外貌的存在方式。畫布上的身體,成為這種狀態的顯現。
而那些變形與異質的生長,也隱含著自嘲——像是對自身所受訓練的輕微偏移與回望。那些疏離的形體與陌生的增生,既是質疑,也是鬆動:它們觸及「藝術」的邊界,同時悄然拆解那些曾被視為理所當然的區隔。
