HO, CAROL OI YAN 何藹恩
現居及工作於香港及英國倫敦
何藹恩的創作實踐,透過審視文化符號、美學意識形態及藝術史典律如何在建構身份認同的過程中被吸納與扭曲,對具象繪畫的既有規範提出根本性的質疑。她以植根於通俗流行文化與東亞圖像語彙的視覺語言,創作出一系列令人不安的肖像作品,挑戰高雅藝術與民間圖像之間的既定邊界。
在持續進行的系列作品《現代主義困在我腦中》(Modernism Stuck in My Head,2016年至今)中,這種張力以直觀而具體的方式呈現:人物被碎裂的現代主義雕塑所貫穿,其面孔成為藝術史與個人身份相互角力的場域。由此產生的圖像棲居於一種怪誕而奇幻的境地,既頌揚、又批判典律形式的權威——最終叩問:身份認同,是否僅僅是我們所消費之符號的總和?
